

One of the most significant moments in Laird Aircraft Company's history was the victory at the Thompson Trophy in 1930. The Thompson Trophy, established in 1929, was one of the most prestigious air racing competitions of its time. The Laird LC-DW 300 Solution won this competition with pilot Charles "Speed" Holman at the controls. The aircraft was a biplane derived from the Speedwing and equipped with a Pratt & Whitney R-985 Wasp Junior engine. Its victory at the Thompson Trophy confirmed Laird's technical superiority and solidified its place in aviation history.
